Cancellation of 2020 TAI Convention

As we all deal with what is becoming our ‘new normal’ I want to share some important information with you the members. We just concluded a momentous TAI Board meeting. Based on the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on consumer confidence, survey results from our members and the inability to support or participate from some of our key sponsors, the 2020 TAI National Convention will be cancelled.

In accordance with Article III Section 6 of our Bylaws we are required to conduct an Annual Meeting. That meeting will be held virtually and occur NLT 15 September. Research is being conducted to determine the most viable electronic platform to accommodate the Annual Meeting.

Section 6. Annual Meeting. The Board, at the direction of the National President, shall hold an annual meeting at such time and place as determined by the National President, with the consent of the Board, which unless otherwise agreed shall coincide with the National Convention (as defined below).

The Board also voted to authorize the Convention Planning Committee to re-negotiate with our 2020 hotel vendor holding our 2021 Convention at the same property in San Antonio. This result is a shift of our normal rotation by a year with the 2022 convention being hosted in the Western Region.

Based on the above decision and to allow time to address many issues associated with this decision, the Board voted to delay several items related to the 2020 Election and Balloting Timeline. The Election and Balloting Preconvention Newsletter with the candidates and other information will be released on 1 July. Voting will begin on 6 August and conclude on 24 August.

These are unusual times that we as an organization and the world in which we live is going through. This was the right decision for the right reasons, the safety of our members. I’m happy to hear that many chapters are utilizing tele meeting services to keep their members engaged. We have established an additional GoToMeeting account that can be used for this purpose, contact your Region President for more information.
